About me

Hi, I am Burak. I am currently an HFSP postdoctoral fellow at the Johannes Felsenberg lab @FMI Basel, working on time and memory. In my research, I am generally interested in how neural circuits encode and use time across scales. Currently, I am focusing on how time impacts the formation of memories from multiple experiences. If you're interested read more about my HFSP project.

Besides my research, I am involved in projects aimed at a better world. I volunteer at two non-profit science-related organizations:
TReND CaMinA
I was a teaching and organising assistant of TReND CaMinA comp neuro & ML courses that took place in Kigali/Rwanda (2024) and in Accra/Ghana (2023). I also prepared material for and taught in a python course for African students in 2022. Currently, I am helping out for TReND CaMinA 2026 which will be held in Nyeri, Kenya.
Neuromatch Academy
Since its foundation (2020), I have been highly active in Neuromatch Academy courses for comp. neuro and machine learning, first as a teaching assistant (TA) then as part of the organization team. In 2023 I was the executive chair leading the Instruction department and dealt with TA related issues such as TA selections, training, support before and during the course. In 2025, I co-chaired the Instruction department for the first months of the year.
